Each year, thousands of Missouri students in grades six through twelve participate in National History Day in Missouri (NHDMO), a dynamic academic program that challenges students to dive deep into historical research. This Saturday, April 25th, more than 400 students from across the state who advanced from regional competitions will gather in Columbia, Missouri, to present their work at the state-level event.

The 2026 theme, Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History, inspired students to explore pivotal moments in history through in-depth projects. Participants will showcase their findings in one of five formats: documentaries, exhibits, research papers, performances, or websites. The program is coordinated and sponsored by the State Historical Society of Missouri.

Among the participants is Kingston Stafford who advanced to the state level with a project titled "Penicillin." His entry in the Senior Documentary Division examined how penicillin was created by accident by Dr. Alexander Fleming and goes on to highlight new and revolutionary ideas related to how scientists can use this newfound knowledge to help create a medicine to help cure common ailments. Kingston was able to identify how this topic was Revolutionary to modern medicine, the Reaction that scientists had to it and the eventual Reform that came due to the success of this medicine.

Please wish Kingston Stafford good luck this weekend at the state level competition!
